PASSION FOR GOD’S HOUSE AND HIS MINISTERS

“Remember me, O my God, concerning this, and wipe not out my good deeds that I have done for the house of my God, and for the offices thereof” (Nehemiah 13:14).

Passion for God and deep commitment to the advancement of His kingdom should characterize every true child of God. As it was with Jesus, the zeal for the wellbeing of God’s house, His ministers and His people should consume every believer (John 2:17). Nehemiah was a great example in this regard.

Right from the beginning of his story, Nehemiah took up matters that concerned God and His kingdom as though everything depended on him. Passion for God and His kingdom made him to take responsibility for the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem as it were a personal project. He also effectively coordinated like minded Jews in the execution of the work.

His commitment to the general wellbeing of God’s people, spiritually, materially and socially was no less remarkable. At a point, more than one hundred and fifty people ate at his table daily (Nehemiah 5:17). More importantly, he was passionate about the total wellbeing of God’s servants (Nehemiah 13:10-14). He saw to the restoration of tithing and firstfruits so that the portions of the ministers might be given to them.

Nehemiah also ensured that proper order and decency existed in the house of God. As he was dealing with issues of religion and temple worship, he also intervened in marriages and many civil matters.

If you follow Nehemiah’s pattern, you can be sure that in due time, God will remember you for the good you have done for His ministers and His house.
