FOLLOW PEACE WITH ALL MEN (I)

“If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men” (Romans 12:18). 

Sometimes, some folks can be very difficult to live with. While some people’s conduct could be negatively shaped by their personal struggles, pains and present challenges, some others are simply evil and incorrigible. These factors can make living at peace with them a tall order.

However, the Bible is emphatic about the necessity of being in a state of peace with all men, both the peaceable and the incorrigible ones. While this can sometimes be challenging, the man who loves God and wants to do His will must labour in the path of this divine admonition. It is God’s command to follow or pursue peace with all men. Failure to do so will contravene holiness of life and endanger your access to the Lord (Hebrews 12:14).

Again, the man who loves himself, treasures his own peace, and desires eternal bliss with God must not delay to explore peace with all men. Indeed, to be at peace with others is to be at peace with your own self. You cannot have constant misunderstandings and strife with certain other people without compromising your own peace. To be happy, healthy and free, you must seek to be at peace with all men.

Forbearing one another, ignoring offences, forgiving people and overlooking their misdeeds is a necessary part of the process (Colossians 3:13). If you let the bad things people do get into you too much, you will find it difficult to be at peace with them. May the Lord help us and give us the emotional strength to follow this important admonition.
