“Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth” (Psalms 46:10).
The world is full of troubles. In some cases, entire nations are not at peace. At the individual level, some are battling with family squabbles or marital challenges. For some, it is their career that is facing a storm, while for some others, it is their neighbour that will not allow them to have peace.
But in all of these, the voice of the Lord comes to us, saying, “Be still, and know that I am God”. In other words, we are to be at peace in the knowledge that God is God, and that He is in control. God is saying you should relax and let the knowledge that He is God over everything, including your affairs, sink deep down in your heart.
Please observe that this divine exhortation contains a promise that God will be exalted in your situation, no matter what happens. The implication is that your case has already been decided to your advantage. The matter that is agitating your mind has been settled. You will receive help from above, and God will take the glory for Himself.
In view of the above, you should drop your worries at the feet of the Lord and abandon them there. Like another translation of this verse says, “Stop your striving” and recognize that God is on top of the situation. Your God is bigger than whatever assails you, and even if your situation is terrible, God will answer with more “terrible things in righteousness” (Psalms 65:5).
Friends, you can have absolute peace in times of trouble if you make God your confidence and let your heart rest in Him (Isaiah 26:3). Be still, and know that God is in control.
