“That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world” (Philippians 2:15).
It is required of the believer to shine as light. Indeed, God commands you to arise and shine for the world to see because the light of God is within you (Isaiah 60:1).
But to shine as light, you must first walk blamelessly before God among men. God has always demanded this from those who associate with Him. He commanded father Abraham to walk before Him and be blameless or perfect (Genesis 17:1). He is saying the same thing to us all. This command was repeated to everyone through Christ, that we must be perfect as our heavenly Father is perfect (Matthew 5:48).
One credible example of the blamelessness that God demands of believers is Daniel. He was a shining light indeed in the midst of a perverse generation.
Daniel was a notable cabinet minister in the Persian kingdom. At a point, the other officials with whom he served became envious and colluded to implicate him. But because Daniel was totally exemplary and trustworthy, they could not find anything that they could use against him. There was no evidence of negligence or misconduct, no old scandal or skeleton in Daniel’s life.
Such is the life we are called to live as God’s children, blameless, harmless, and without rebuke, shining as lights in the midst of darkness. In the words of Christ, please let “your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16). Receive grace to be a shining light to your world.
