“And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding” (Jeremiah 3:15).

In life, everyone has a right to choose who he wants to associate with. You are responsible for the friendship you nurture or allow. Otherwise, the Bible wouldn’t have told us for example not to love the world (1 John 2:15).

So also, every believer has a right to determine under God, which spiritual leader to submit to. Truly, God has given to each of us the minister by whom we must believe and be nurtured in Christ (1 Corinthians 3:5). His promise is to give pastors according to His heart to feed us with knowledge and understanding. But it is your duty to pray to know the person God has appointed for you.

Thankfully, the Bible has given us a checklist of who can be our pastor. Thus we know that a pastor after God’s heart will not tell you that it is okay to serve God with sin. He will not engage in immorality with you or other church members. The one sent to feed you with knowledge and understanding will not bring clowns as guest speakers during holy convocations and conventions.

The believer who chooses to remain in a church characterized by the things listed above is entirely responsible for his decision. If all that you know of God and the Bible allows you to abide in a place where the pastor must sniff cocaine for his ‘anointing’ to flow, then you are on your own.

My beloved, take responsibility for the kind of pastor you put yourself under. If you fail to do your due diligence and end up under the wrong spiritual leader, you will be liable for your error and suffer the consequences.
