SUPERNATURAL PROVISION

“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).

The Lord is a God of supernatural abundance. However, because He is self sufficient and does not need anything, that abundance does not exist for His own benefit. Rather, it is for the enjoyment of His children.

The Bible gives many examples of supernatural provisions. Under the leadership of Moses, the Israelites enjoyed supernatural provisions for forty years in the wilderness. Manna and quail came down from the skies to give them bread and flesh to eat (Exodus 16:4). Also, water came out from unlikely places to give drink to the people and their livestock (Exodus 17:6). Indeed, we serve a mighty God.

There are  other instances where people enjoyed supernatural provision. For example, when Peter needed to pay taxes for himself and the Lord Jesus, the money to meet that civic obligation came from the mouth of a fish. It remains a mystery how the mouth of a fish could function as a bank or safe.

But note that supernatural provision does not negate diligent work. God’s abundance is not for lazy folks. The Israelites had to go out early in the morning to gather the food God supernaturally provided and whoever came late got nothing. Peter had to go fishing to experience the miracle of God. The miracle of supernatural provision will often meet us in the place of diligent labour.

Beloved, make the Lord your Shepherd indeed. Then you will not be in want. Trust Him also and He will supernaturally supply all your needs according to His riches in glory.
