THE CALL TO TRANSPARENCY

“Ye are witnesses, and God also, how holily and justly and unblameably we behaved ourselves among you that believe” (1 Thessalonians 2:10).

The Christian life comes with a huge responsibility. As representatives of God and ambassadors of Christ, we have a duty to live the life that is worthy of the name by which we are called. One of the ways by which we can do this is to embrace the principle of transparency.

Paul wrote about “how holily and justly and unblameably” he and his company behaved themselves among the believers in Thessalonica. But it is remarkable that the people were witnesses and could testify to the exemplary conduct of Paul and those who were with him. That speaks to the fact that Paul and his team were transparent in their approach to life. They were transparently holy, just and unblameable before the people.

It is important to understand that as Christians, we live in a glass house and we are required to maintain “open face” (2 Corinthians 3:18). Jesus said that the believer is like a city set on a hill that cannot be hid (Matthew 5:14). As such, we must necessarily be transparent in our conduct and approach to life. The Christian should have nothing to hide. We must renounce the hidden things of dishonesty and manifest the truth always (2 Corinthians 4:2).

It is only then that we shall leave no room for the enemy to cast aspersions on our faith and the name of the Lord. May the Lord help us to heed this call to transparency of life.
