Seek the Lord, and his strength: seek his face evermore” (Psalms 105:4).
An improved relationship with God does not just happen. Previous discussions show that there are specific steps the individual must take. Beyond the steps already mentioned, there are other things we should do to achieve better results in our relationship with God.
As a follow up to the discussion on prayer and study of the scriptures, it is important to make out time for occasional retreats to concentrate on these essential spiritual activities. Retreats could span hours, days, weeks or even months, depending on the time available to respective individuals. The important thing is to create time for solitude so that you can engage with the Lord without distractions.
Creating time for meditation for deep reflection in the scriptures is another important thing to incorporate into your devotional life. The Lord emphasized to Joshua the importance of constant meditation for the believer (Joshua 1:8). David also spoke of the blessedness of constant meditation in the word of God (Psalms 1:2).
The third thing to mention here is fellowship with other brethren. The Bible urges us not to forsake the assembly of other believers because it is important for our spiritual health (Hebrews 10:25). There we shall receive encouragement in our faith walk and be challenged by the positive examples of others. Also, we are sometimes able to pray and worship God better when we are in the midst of other brethren.
All the above are essential components of seeking the Lord. May the grace to put these things into practice abound unto us in Jesus name.
