HEARING GOD FOR YOURSELF (XII)

“And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him” (Matthew 2:13).

Joseph, the earthly father of Jesus was a man of many dreams. He consistently had positive, edifying dreams that gave definite divine direction to his life. God spoke to him through dreams many times.

It was in a dream that the Lord told him not to put away Mary because her conception was by the Holy Ghost. It was also through dream that he was told that the name of the Son of God that shall be born shall be Jesus (Matthew 1:20-21).

After Jesus was born, God revealed to Joseph in a dream that Herod would seek to kill Jesus and that he should take the young child and Mary to Egypt (Matthew 2:13). Again, after Herod died, the Lord informed Joseph through dream that he should return to Israel (Matthew 2:19-20).

Joseph’s story perfectly illustrates how important it is for us to be able to hear from the Lord directly. Imagine what could have happened if Joseph could not access God’s voice. God’s salvation plan could have been jeopardized as a result.

Joseph would never have been able to fulfil the purpose of God for his life if he had to rely on someone else to tell him what God wanted him to do. May the Lord open our ears to His voice that we also may fulfil destiny, in Jesus name.
