HEARING GOD FOR YOURSELF (XIII)

“But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost” (Matthew 1:20).

Some people do not remember their dreams. Others, including Christians often have bad dreams or nightmares. Usually, these are the results of a lifestyle that exposes their dream world to satanic manipulations.

Dreams were a veritable channel of God’s voice to Joseph, the Carpenter. He always remembered his dreams and rather than having nightmares, his dreams were always from God. But that did not happen by chance. Joseph had a meaningful walk with God. He obeyed and performed God’s will without questioning. These virtues created room for God to communicate with him through dreams.

Joseph was also a just man (Matthew 1:19). He was upright, righteous, and virtuous. In scripture, the just refers to people who not only obey God’s commands, but whose way of thinking, speaking and acting is wholly conformed to the divine will. Such a lifestyle will definitely impact your dreams.

If you forget your dreams often, it is perhaps because you also fail to pray and meditate in the scripture often. If you have constant nightmares, you could be walking contrary to God’s commands in some areas. That is why being upright before God is necessary to consistently hearing Him, whether through dreams or other means.

We can celebrate Christmas today because Joseph chose to be just, feared the Lord and knew His voice. May God help us to be just and be absolutely committed to doing His will always.
