HEARING GOD FOR YOURSELF (XIX)

“Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life” (Proverbs 4:13).

We have dealt with several aspects of hearing God for yourself. While the discussions are not exhaustive, many essential areas have been touched. To conclude the conversation, here are a few more things that can hinder access to the spirit realm.

Lack of respect for spiritual authorities can block access to God’s voice. That was the problem of king Saul. He disregarded the instructions that came through Samuel and lost touch with heaven. Zedekiah was also rebuked because he did not humble himself before Jeremiah the prophet (2 Chronicles 36:12).

Often times, genuine servants of God can verily represent God’s voice to us. To disobey them is accounted as disobeying God which can seriously disrupt your communication channels with heaven. Therefore, honour their words, even as you subject everything to the authority of the scripture.

Also, refrain from selective hearing. Selective hearing is when you choose what you want to hear out of the instructions from God and pretend as if you did not hear the part that seems unpalatable to you. Selective hearing will of course produce selective obedience as it was in the case of Saul. Such practices can over time keep you from hearing the voice of God.

Finally, never despise instruction. Many want God to lead them but do not want to be instructed to discipline. But the ear that will not hear instruction will not hear direction. When Saul refused instruction, he forfeited his access to direction (1 Samuel 28:15-18).

Hearing God begins with hearing His instructions. May God help us all in Jesus name.
