“How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him” (ACTS 10:38).
The Bible commands us to be full of good works and do good unto all men (Galatians 6:10). However, our scripture for today shows that it will require the active working of the Spirit and power of God for us to do good.
We are told that Jesus went about doing good. The enabling grace that produced that character in Him was the anointing and power of the Holy Ghost. The fact is that no man in this tabernacle of flesh can be good of himself. Indeed, as Jesus declared, no one is good except God (Luke 18:19). That is why we need the help of His Holy Spirit to do good.
First, God is the source of all goodness. Whatever good we do can only be an extension of His goodness. Besides, man is naturally selfish and it will require the working of the Holy Spirit for us to do good to others without ulterior motives and without expecting worship, special recognition or acknowledgement.
Finally, given the delicate nature of the world we now live in, you need the power of God to do good safely. Many have done good and gotten into trouble thereby. But when the power of God is with you, it will be difficult for the enemy to interfere in your good work.
May the Spirit of God fill you with His love and may His power shield you from the evil one as you shine the light of God’s goodness to humanity.
