I WILL PRAISE THE LORD WHILE I AM ALIVE

“While I live will I praise the Lord: I will sing praises unto my God while I have any being” (Psalms 146:2).

Praising God is the duty of all living and we are all called to be constantly engaged in this holy venture. Here are two key things to note on this subject matter.

First, giving praise to God is a matter of the will. You will give praise to God only if you are willing to do so. It has nothing to do with your state of happiness or whether you have money in your pocket or not. Please note that praising God and singing songs of praise are not always the same. Giving praise to God is essentially a thing of the heart while singing praise songs may not go beyond a man’s lips. That is why you must will it in your heart to praise the Lord.

The second thing relates to the fundamental reason for praising God. In today’s Bible verse, the Psalmist pledged to praise the Lord as long as he had breath. Once there is life, the lack of other things should not stop the living from praising God. Hezekiah taught us that the dead in the grave cannot praise God nor celebrate Him. Then he said, “The living, the living, he shall praise thee” (Isaiah 38:18-19).

Beloved, praising God is like giving an announcement in the spirit realm that we are still alive and willing to be blessed of God and also do His pleasure. May the praise of God never cease from our hearts and our lips.
