“As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.” (Acts 13:2).
Relationship determines so many things in life (Proverbs 13:20). You are where you are today because of the kind of relationships you have kept. What you will become tomorrow will also be determined by the same factor.
Concerning this issue of surrendering to God, the company you keep will prove critical. If your close friends are people who do not place priority on being in right relationship with God, you will struggle. But if you company with believers who are progressing on this journey of surrendering to God, you will be greatly helped.
Apostle Paul had a company of friends who were disposed to seeking the Lord always and submitting to Him in all things. They were totally surrendered to God and would never delay to obey Him on any matter. Thus, when the Holy Ghost said Barnabas and Paul should be released to face their assignment, instant compliance followed, instead of arguments, complaints and disobedience.
Finally, as it is with virtually everything in life, you will be doing yourself a world of good if you prayerfully find a spiritual father or mentor to submit to help your journey. If you cannot submit to a man that is above you whom you can see, forget about submitting to God who you do not see. It is just as the Bible says that if you cannot love a man you can see, you cannot claim to love the unseen God (1 John 4:20). May God help us all in Jesus name.
