SURRENDER MORE (X)

“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me” (Galatians 2:20).

Christ came into the world, not to do His own will but the Father’s will (Hebrews 10:7). He subdued His will that the will of the Father might prevail. As His followers, we are called to such a life.

As previously observed, at the heart of Christ’s surrender to the Father was His humility which manifested in death to self, the flesh and the world. For us also, only the same approach will quicken us to submit to God and surrender to His will.

Paul’s assertion of being crucified with Christ is a clear admission of his commitment to death to self, the flesh and the world. Indeed, there can be no true and lasting surrender to God until our commitment to dying to self, the flesh and the world is in place.

Just as those in the flesh cannot please God, they also cannot surrender to Him (Romans 8:6). And just as affinity with the world will turn you into the enemy of God, so also will it mock your attempt to surrender to God and label it over-zealousness and excessive spirituality (James 4:4).

Christ and the Bible saints “loved not their lives unto the death” (Revelation 12:11). We also can only truly surrender to God when we commit to that high level consecration. May grace abound unto us to surrender all, just as Christ surrendered all.
