THE GOD OF A SECOND CHANCE

“And the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the second time, saying” (Jonah 3:1).

Many times, we stumble at the counsel of God and fail to execute His purpose. Sometimes, this happens because of ignorance. At other times, we are simply disobedient. Whichever way, it is not uncommon with God to give people a second chance to redeem themselves. That is why He is called the God of a second chance.

After Jonah failed to carry out the divine instruction to go preach at Nineveh, God spoke to him again, giving him another chance to align himself with heaven’s agenda. That pattern is displayed all over the scripture to show that God does not abandon us in our disobedience, neither does He give up on people. He gives His children the benefit of a second chance.

The story of the prodigal son is a New Testament evidence of the truth under discussion. The boy who had wasted his father’s wealth through riotous living and walked contrary to his father’s desires eventually came back in repentance into the waiting embrace of the father. The father gave him a second chance to live right. Such is the father heart of our God.

Friends, I want you to know that God has not given up on you. Irrespective of what you have done, He still retains you as a vital part of His program. If He gave Jonah and the prodigal son a second chance, He will do the same for you. Turn to Him in repentance and commit to doing His will. Then, His mercy will flow towards you again.
