GREAT IN POWER, SLOW TO ANGER

“The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet” (Nahum 1:3).

Power is the ability to do something or get work done. Power is good and everyone loves to have power. But God’s word teaches that power must be tempered with stable emotions.

God is great in power but slow to anger because His great power must not be combined with great anger. Otherwise, there would always be great disaster for the world. If God were to be great in anger as He is great in power, the flood of Noah would have been repeated severally. God would have been provoked to destroy this world over and over again.

If God will entrust you with power in any form, please tame your anger and master your emotions. Tempered emotions must precede power enduement. You need that calm disposition to handle power. The soon-angry person with financial power will destroy many people. An intemperate politician in power will wrought great havoc in the society.

The pastor that cannot control his temper will destroy lives. Elisha helped many helpless people, but needed to outgrow anger so as not to destroy more lives. Spouses and parents must also learn to temper their temperament so they will not destroy their union and complicate the lives of their children.

Those who want great power must learn great humility. May God help us to be of sober mind that we may carry His power for our good and the good of our world.
