“Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight“ (Proverbs 12:22).
To lie is to give false information intentionally in order to deceive or promote an incorrect image of the reality. But, sometimes, the intentionality is immaterial so that a lie becomes anything that mislead.
God does not want us to tell lies or live a life of falsehood because all liars shall end up in hell (Revelation 21:8). He wants us to be truthful and sincere at all times. As believers in Christ, we should note that the longer we entertain a lie, the harder it will become for us to remember what truth is and where it can lead to.
Lies will often shout and scream louder than truth. But even in its silence, truth remains exceedingly more powerful than the most eloquent falsehood. Surely, a lie will eventually be exposed for what it is and truth will prevail because lies generally have a short lifespan (Proverbs 12:19).
Falsehood is of the devil. Since Jesus called the devil a liar and the father of lies, all liars are children of the devil (John 8:44). Indeed, the Bible speaks of a lying spirit which can make even a prophet of God prophesy lies (1 Kings 22:22). But the spirit of truth will counteract, defeat and dethrone a lying spirit.
The Spirit of God is the spirit of truth (John 15:26). When the Holy Spirit fills you, you will have capacity to resist lying spirits, embrace, speak and spread the truth. O Lord, fill us with your Holy Spirit of truth in Jesus name.
