“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest” (Joshua 1:9).
Courage is the quality of being confident, not afraid or easily intimidated. It is the ability to overcome one’s fears and do those things which one finds frightening. It is the strength of the heart to overcome fear.
Courage is important for progress and fulfilment in life. The Christian in particular cannot afford to live without courage. It takes courage to obey God, say no to sin, do away with ungodly friends, go contrary to the world, refuse to give in to outside pressure and earnestly pursue the agenda of God for your life.
Courage is more of a personal decision than anything else. Whereas you may not be able to control the behaviour of others in your team or your environment, you definitely have the power to tell your mind what to do. It is your personal responsibility to take courage to obey God and fulfil His purpose for your life.
That was why God told Joshua severally to be courageous so that he would be able to influence the people positively and accomplish the assignment placed before him (Joshua 1:6). Just as the Lord challenged Joshua to be courageous, He is also encouraging us to be of good courage (Psalms 31:24).
Beloved, remember that God has not given you the spirit of fear, but of love, power and sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). Realising, believing and standing on this will give you the strength to do what you need to do.
