KEEP DOING THE RIGHT THING

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things” (Philippians 4:8).

Many think that the idea of what is right could be relative, depending on culture, place and circumstances. But for us as Christians, the Bible is clear on what is right, irrespective of the circumstances.

Today’s scripture verse gives a summary of the features of what we can consider right. Your thought, speech or action is right when it is true, honest, just, pure and lovely. Also, it must be of good report, virtuous and praiseworthy. Without these characteristics, your conduct as a believer cannot glorify God.

Jesus was always doing good when He walked this earth as man (Acts 10:38). Although He endured strong opposition from the Jews and was eventually killed, He never stopped doing right. His life teaches that even when our good deeds are not acknowledged and appreciated, we should not turn to doing evil. That the truth has not profited yet should not make us embrace falsehood.

If your honesty in your career or business is abused, do not join the abuse by corrupting yourself with the smallest lie. The faithful spouse should not become unfaithful because the partner has refused to be who he or she should be. You should not lose your identity of honour because someone else has chosen to throw his own honour to the dogs.

Keep doing right and God will bless you for it. Receive grace to be consistent in doing the right thing.
