“But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid” (Matthew 14:27).
Fear is a major weapon the enemy uses to harass people. The Bible says that fear has torment (1 John 4:18). Once fear takes root in your heart, it will be easy for the devil to torment you.
But God has given us antidotes to fear. From Peter’s encounter, the first thing with which to combat fear is the presence of God. Jesus told Peter not to fear because He was right there with him. David declared that even though he walked through the valley of the shadow of death, he would fear no evil. His confidence to stand fearless was rooted in the realization of the fact that the Lord was with him (Psalms 23:4).
Several times in the book of Isaiah, God instructed His people not to fear, assuring them of the effectiveness of the power of His presence to drive away fear. For example, He told Israel, “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God” (Isaiah 41:10). At a point, God sent a clear message to those who are of a fearful heart, telling them to be strong and not give in to fear because God is coming (Isaiah 35:4).
Beloved, if you are living in the bondage of fear in any sense, I announce to you that your God will come and save you from fear and its torment. Today, I invoke God’s presence upon your life and declare you free from the spirit of fear in Jesus name.
