BE NOT AFRAID (III)

“So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me” (Hebrews 13:6).

Fear is an involuntary emotional and psychological response to actual or perceived threat or danger. You will find that nobody chooses fear consciously. It is an oppressive and tormenting spirit thrust upon an individual by the devil.

Fear is an unwelcome invader that settles in your mind against your will. But it will require the consent of your will and your conscious participation for fear to remain in your heart. This means that you can exercise your will to deny fear a permanent residency or occupancy in your life. By the exercise of your will, you can drive away fear and make it an unwanted interloper in your life.

The Bible on many occasions instructed us not fear or be afraid. For example, God repeatedly commanded Joshua to be strong and of good courage and be not afraid, promising to be with him always (Joshua 1:9). We have that responsibility to deny fear a place in our lives because God has given us the ability to exercise our will to resist fear.

David understood this well enough and declared, “Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident” (Psalms 27:3). Again, he said, “The Lord is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?” (Psalms 118:6).

Beloved, refuse to be afraid. Draw strength from the presence of God and your knowledge of the scripture to resist fear and you will give your faith a boost.
