“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
A major theme of the Bible is God’s love for humanity. From Genesis to Revelation, we are shown a God who loves like no other. We also see His consistent benevolence that confirms His love to us.
A unique dimension of God’s love is the offering up of His only begotten Son for our total redemption. When God wanted to prove His love, He did not send an angel or delegate the assignment to some other beings. Rather, He stepped down to do the job Himself.
It is important to underscore that God did not confirm His love to us by words alone, or by giving us mere bread and butter. God’s love is not validated by the cars, houses, money and other material things He constantly gives us. Rather, He authenticated His love by giving us His best because love surrenders its best.
We must be thankful to God for loving us in this special way to give us His very best. We must appreciate the sacrifice of divinity for humanity. But much more, we must learn this important lesson: that true love surrenders its best for the object of his affection.
Beloved, we must henceforth love God with our best and willingly surrender our best to Him to confirm our love. Also, beginning with our spouses, children and family members, we must be ready to release our best to show love to fellow men. May we become purveyors of God’s kind of love to our generation in Jesus name.
