“Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee” (Genesis 12:1).
It has always been the desire of God that His children should hear Him. Both the Old and the New Testament clearly shows that God wants to maintain functional, dynamic and effective communication with His people.
The believer’s access to the prompting and leading of the Holy Spirit is very necessary for normal Christian living. Without it, there will be plenty of frustrations in your journey, arising from not knowing what you should do that would be acceptable to God. There will also be many mistakes, making you to offend God from time to time. It was king Saul’s inability to personally and accurately access God’s voice that exposed him to the numerous errors that ruined his relationship with the Lord and His prophet (1 Samuel 28:6).
Abraham was greatly helped in his faith walk because he knew the voice of the Lord. At every critical turn, access to that voice always bailed him out. How frustrating it would have been if it was someone who told Abraham that God said he should leave his country to an unknown place. It would have been difficult for him to stay committed on the faith path if he could not hear God for himself.
Beloved, desire to be led by the Lord. It is your covenant right as a child of God to hear the voice of your heavenly Father, just like Abraham did. May your ears be ever open to His voice.
