HONOUR ALL MEN

“Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king” (1 Peter 2:17).

God honours all men. He does not shine the light of His sun and His moon to kings and nobles only. Both the rich and the poor are made to equally benefit from His benevolence.

Quite significantly, God honours all men with His Holy Spirit. He does not have different spirits for different classes of people. Both rich and poor people are saved and adopted into God’s family by the same Spirit (Romans 8:15). When He promised to pour His Spirit upon all flesh, God ensured that servants and handmaids were common partakers of what sons and daughters would receive (Joel 2:28-29).

In these things, God laid examples for us, how we also should honour all men. He wants us to honour all men because we are all made in His image (Proverbs 22:2). That is why the Bible says that you reproach God when you oppress and dishonour the poor (Proverbs 14:31).

Again, you must learn to honour all men, not so much because of who they are or what they have done, but because of who you are. A person of honour will naturally honour others because you can only give what you have. But if you are not a honourable person, you will find it difficult to honour others, including those who really deserve to be honoured because honour is not in you.

Friends, honour is a seed which does not cost you anything to sow. But when you sow it, it brings much harvests both in the now and in time to come.
