“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1).
Deep interaction with the scriptures should form an integral part of your devotional life. The Bible tells us that the word of God is God Himself. Therefore, every sincere interaction with the scriptures is an interaction with God.
Your daily study of the scriptures must never be compromised. Quoting from the Old Testament, Jesus said, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4). We need God’s word as food for our soul, just as we need physical bread for bodily sustenance. Therefore, let the word of God dwell in you richly (Colossians 3:16). The more the scriptures dwells in you, the richer your relationship with God will be.
Our relationship with the scriptures should not be casual. Hence, we are warned not to be hearers only, but doers of the word (James 1:22). It is in doing the word of God that we are blessed (James 1:25). Thus, correct relationship with the word of God will manifest in accurate spiritual knowledge, deep insight, sound understanding, right application of the word and blessings. Also, obedience to the word of God will produce protection and covering so that our blessings will not become corrupted.
The importance of meaningful engagement with the word of God cannot be over-emphasized. That is what will generate adequate power for the Christian life and strengthen you against the evil one. May the Lord grant us fresh hunger and thirst for His words in Jesus name.
