RELATING TO OTHERS WITH A PURE HEART

“Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned” (1 Timothy 1:5).

Purity of heart is at the heart of true Christianity. Jesus said, “Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God” (Matthew 5:8). It takes a pure heart to worship God in spirit and in truth (John 4:24).

Each of us must also relate with a pure heart to have peace and sweet brotherly experience among ourselves as brethren. We are to love one another fervently with a pure heart (1 Peter 1:22). Indeed, the mystery of the Christian faith can only be safely held in a pure conscience (1 Timothy 3:9). An impure heart will pollute the message of Christ, insult the grace of God and contaminate the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

Relating to people with a pure heart is very important. It will bring pleasure to God, elicit implicit trust from others, position you to be a blessing to many and engender peace to your own soul. Also, pureness of heart will draw kings and nobles to become your friends (Proverbs 22:11).

The fallen man cannot naturally have purity of heart. That virtue is available in redemption where the blood of Jesus Christ purges our conscience from dead works (Hebrews 9:14). Even then, salvation does not automatically make your heart pure. You must take deliberate steps to cultivate and nurture a pure heart. The most important of those steps is to constantly wash your heart with the word of God that it may thereby be renewed. May the Lord help us all in Jesus name.
