“Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life” (John 6:68).
Some of the benefits of surrendering more unto the Lord have been explored. Now, let us consider some of the steps we should take in order to surrender more.
First, make an honest assessment of where you are presently in the journey to full surrender. The Bible encourages us to examine ourselves (2 Corinthians 13:5). Constant evaluation is necessary to make progress in anything we do. Submitting yourself to periodic honest self evaluation will help you know in what area of life you are still holding back from the Lord.
Second, you must be eternally committed to obeying the will of God that you know. The Bible says we should do the will of God from the heart (Ephesians 6:6). When faced with the question of whether to stay with Jesus or go away from Him like some other disciples, Peter, speaking on behalf of the Twelve said there was no one else they could go to. That means, they were irrevocably committed to following the Lord. That was a state of permanent surrender to Jesus.
Third, to surrender more, you must make God and His pleasure your only goal. Whoever is interested in pleasing himself cannot fully surrender to God because self will always demand independence, even from God who created it. Paul realized this and declared that all he wanted was to know Christ and be conformed to Him (Philippians 3:10).
We all must also get to that point where knowing and pleasing God become our only goal. May God help us in Jesus name.
