THE BLESSINGS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

“If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?” (Luke 11:13).

Traditional Christian theology rightly reckons the Holy Spirit as the third person in the Godhead. He is not a wind or merely the power of God as some people think. The Holy Spirit is God.

Every genuine Christian has the Holy Spirit dwelling in him. We become God’s children by the working of the Holy Spirit in us (Romans 8:15-16). Because the Holy Spirit is God, He has the capacity to bless us. And since the Christian is a partaker of the Holy Spirit, he also qualifies to share in His blessings.

Our text for today alludes to the fact that the Holy Spirit has and gives good gifts. Indeed, the Bible speaks clearly of the spiritual gifts of the Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:4). But beyond that, there are blessings that should be ours simply because we have the Spirit of God dwelling in us.

Primary among them is the benefit of being led supernaturally by the Spirit (Romans 8:14). Sometimes, if you are spiritually sensitive, you will know when you are being led by the Holy Spirit. But at other times, the Spirit leads without you being presently aware. In times like that, people would say something told them to take a particular course of action leading to positive results.

There are many more blessings that flow from the Holy Spirit. As we study Him more and improve on our relationship with Him, these blessings shall find expression in us in Jesus name.
