THE GREATEST TESTIMONY

“By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God” (Hebrews 11:5).

Enoch is well known to Bible readers as one who walked with God (Genesis 5:22-24). His unique record in that regard remains unmatched in the annals of scripture and in contemporary times.

But the aspect of Enoch’s life that is not often highlighted is the unique testimony that he pleased God. The word, ‘testimony’ implies the existence of credible witnesses to the matter on ground. As it were, heaven and earth bore witness to the fact that Enoch pleased God. What a testimony!

That testimony is both an example and a challenge to us. Every true Christian must labour to have that same testimony of pleasing the Lord. Pleasing God has value in itself, binding us to Him and enhancing our relationship with Him. Besides, you will discover that pleasing the Lord is ever more profitable than pleasing yourself or pleasing people.

Finally, pleasing the Lord puts you at an advantage over the enemy. The scripture testifies that when a man’s ways please the Lord, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him (Proverbs 16:7). Instead of struggling to overcome the enemy, concentrate on pleasing God. Ultimately, you will find that it is a lot easier to please the Lord of your life than wrestle the enemy of your life.

Beloved, we can all please God by faith. Like Enoch, may we have this testimony that our lives are ever pleasing to the Lord.
