“And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever” (John 14:16).
Jesus Christ labeled the Holy Spirit as the Comforter. The word, ‘Comforter’ as used in this context means the one who stands by you to help you. The Holy Spirit is your Helper who never leaves your side.
It is impossible to live the Christian life without the Holy Spirit. We need His help to have proper devotional experience and to cultivate meaningful relationship with God. Without the Him, we can neither please God nor live righteously in this evil world. We also need the Holy Spirit to serve the purpose of God in our generation, preach the gospel of God’s kingdom, have power over the forces of darkness and live triumphantly as believers.
But since we cannot see the Holy Spirit, it will take faith to draw His blessings. The fact that the Holy Ghost is not visible to the human eye makes it difficult for many people to relate with Him. To overcome this challenge, we must constantly remind ourselves that God is a spirit (John 4:24). You cannot see Him, just as you cannot see the air you breathe. Yet, He is real, even more real than your breath.
Beloved, the Holy Spirit is your dedicated helper. Jesus said so and promised that He shall abide with us forever. With the Spirit dwelling in us, we have the privileged blessing of drawing comfort and help from Him from time to time. May we continually enjoy the ministry of the Holy Spirit in Jesus name.
