“So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God” (Romans 8:8).
The flesh is in a constant war with God and anything that is of God. It is never willing of itself to do the things that please God. Anyone who wants to please God must be ready for a never ending battle with the flesh.
The Scripture says every Christian should do the will of God and please Him. This is so important that Jesus made it a part of what should form our daily prayer (Matthew 6:10). The Bible goes further to say we must do the will of God from the heart (Ephesians 6:6).
But the carnal Christian who is always mindful of the flesh and the things of the world cannot do the will of God, let alone do it from the heart. To please God, you must crucify the flesh. You must be ready to deny yourself (Matthew 16:24). You must be willing to put your body under subjection (1 Corinthians 9:27).
Above all, you must be ready to live by, and be led of the Holy Spirit. Then you will be able to mortify the deeds of the flesh and please God. The first way to achieve this is to live by the word of God. Refuse to do contrary to the Word, and you will weaken the power of the flesh. Secondly, watch out for the inner witness of your spirit and follow its direction. If you allow the Spirit of God to always weigh on your own spirit, you will make it difficult for the flesh to find expression.
Those who are in the flesh can never please God. But those who are led by the Spirit of God will always please Him. May the Holy Spirit have His way in your life always.
