“For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication” (1 Thessalonians 4:3).

Sanctification can be defined as the process of making something holy or sacred. It is the setting apart of a person or an item for God’s use. Broadly speaking, sanctification entails separation, consecration, holiness and purity.

God wants His children to live pure and holy lives. Regardless of what job you do, the country you live, your gender and social or educational status, your sanctification is God’s absolute will. But today’s Bible verse goes on to be even more specific.

It is always the will of God that everyone should abstain from fornication, adultery and all form of sexual immorality. It doesn’t matter whether you are in the entertainment industry or in the pastoral ministry. It doesn’t matter whether you are weak or strong, married or unmarried. No excuse is admissible for living outside such expressly revealed will of God.

We often pray to find out the will of God on several issues. But it is never a thing to pray about whether to fornicate or commit adultery because we already know what the will of God is in the matter. Everybody already knows that God would never want us to sleep with another person’s spouse, even if they don’t go to church. So ignorance will never be an excuse in this matter.

Beloved, it is the will of God that you learn how to exercise self control and honour your body which is the temple of God. In today’s world of wanton immorality, it is important to raise the volume on this matter and let people know that there is great punishment for neglecting to adhere to such plainly revealed will of God. There is pardon, however, for all who repent. May the Lord help us overcome our weaknesses and abide in His will.
