“Then said these men, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it against him concerning the law of his God” (Daniel 6:5).

There are two big lessons in our text for today. The first is Daniel’s impeccable character. The second is his incredible love for God. Interestingly, both attributes were testified to, even by Daniel’s arch enemies.

Daniel was thoroughly investigated with the specific aim of finding evidence of negligence or misconduct against him. But his traducers couldn’t dig up anything or find some old scandal or skeleton in Daniel’s life that they could use against him. What a man! What a life!

Secondly, Daniel was a man who loved God deeply. When his enemies could not find anything against him, they realized that the only way to get Daniel into trouble was to criminalize the fervent worship of God. They were convinced that unless loving God were a crime, a man like Daniel would never be guilty of anything.

What a way to accuse a man! Could you possibly be accused of loving the Lord too much? If loving and serving Jesus were to be a crime, would there ever be enough evidence to convict you? On the other hand, if you were prosecuted for not loving and serving God enough, wouldn’t there be more than enough evidence to sentence you immediately?

Daniel’s life should challenge every serious Christian. When an enemy says a positive thing about you, then it must be true, or at least closer to the truth. Daniel’s foes said the man was faultless and loved his God deeply. What a testimony!

When will such be said of you and me? When will friends and foes accuse us of loving Jesus too much? Let Daniel’s life challenge you to live a life that will make God proud of you.
