A POSITIVE LESSON FROM JEZEBEL (VI)

“Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols” (Revelation 2:20).

In the letter to the Church in Laodicea, Jesus said the Christians there were lukewarm. Today, lukewarm Christians abound in our churches also. Many want to play safe because they lack sufficient passion to be hot or fervent for Jesus. To provoke such Christians to jealousy, we conclude this series by presenting Jezebel, a woman who was very hot for her god.

Jezebel was exceedingly fervent for Baal. While she lived, her environment knew that there was an idol called Baal and through her, Baal became very popular. Even in Israel, Baal worship took centre stage and the worship of the true God was almost totally eclipsed, all because Jezebel was hot for Baal.

In the book of Revelation, some one thousand years after her death, Jezebel’s name came up for mentioning because her impact against the Church remained evident. She just could not be forgotten. Even today, Jezebel is mentioned many more times in the church than the names of a thousand Christians put together.

Dear Christian, what shall we say about your commitment to the Lord and His Kingdom? Are you hot for Jesus? Do your neighbours know Jesus because of you or does your lifestyle hinder the gospel? After you die, would anyone remember what you have done for Jesus? Jezebel was a force to be reckoned with for Baal. Would you pledge your life to be a force to be reckoned with for the kingdom of God?
