A FRIEND INDEED

“A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity” (Proverbs 17:17).

A true friend loves always and a true brother stands by you in bad times. In fact, the person you see during your difficult times is the one that really exists. A friend in need is a friend for real. But the one that is not available when his friend is in need is not a friend indeed.

The above is applicable to all forms of relationships. A man that fails to stand strong, loving and loyal when his wife needs him is definitely not a husband indeed. Similarly, a woman that makes good dishes for her husband and gives him pleasure only when he has money is not a wife indeed. She is just a whore who gets paid for her services.

A father indeed is there for his children both when they are doing well and when they have challenges. A mother who curses her children because they are still struggling and cannot give to her yet is certainly not a mother indeed. And children who abandon their aged or sick parents qualify as bastards.

A pastor indeed will stand by his members in their hour of need. But church members who abandon their pastors in difficult times are definitely not members indeed. Of course, you should not, in the name of loyalty, stick with a serial adulterer or a false prophet who is in trouble because he has been unmasked. But when a true pastor is having challenges, the least his members can do is to support and show him love.

Those who stand by you in adversity are your people indeed. Please cherish them.
