“Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name” (Psalms 100:4).
Giving praise and thanks to God is one of our major obligations as Christians. Consistent worship and adoration of the Lord should be the daily engagement of all saints.
While God truly loves us to worship Him, we are the major beneficiaries of a lifestyle of praise and thanksgiving. For example, praise and thanksgiving announce your arrival in God’s presence. That is why in today’s Bible verse, the Psalmist bids us enter into His gates with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise. Otherwise, our appearance in His presence will produce no benefit.
Also, praise and thanksgiving move God and bring Him into your situation, sometimes faster than prayer would do. While chained down in prison at Philippi, the Bible says that Paul and Silas prayed and sang praises to God. Then the presence of God came down into the prison like a great earthquake and shook the foundations of the prison.
Immediately, ministering spirits went into action, opening the prison doors and loosening every one’s bands (Acts 16:26). It was as if the angels were alerted and moved into action when they heard them sing praises to God.
But, please note that worship goes beyond singing slow songs of praise. You can also go through the motions of singing praise songs without necessarily praising God. The worship of God is more of expressing love, gratitude and adoration for Him in every way possible. That is why we must first nurture a heart of praise and gratitude. May we become addicted to heartfelt worship of the Lord.
