FOLLOW PEACE WITH ALL MEN (IX)

“For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother” (Mark 3:35).

In our quest to live peaceably with others, there are times that it becomes necessary duty for the believer, or even Church to separate from those with whom there had hitherto been union and fellowship. The critical thing is to understand that such separation, whether temporary or permanent does not violate the biblical concept of living peaceably with all men.

While Jesus was preaching to people, His mother and brethren came to see Him and they sent unto Him to call Him out to come attend to them. The multitude that sat around Him promptly notified Him of the visitors waiting for Him outside the meeting venue (Mark 3:31-32). The response of Jesus was not to deny His family, but to show that certain things, notably the will of God, should never be compromised in the name of keeping peace.

The fact is that they were not seeking the same ends in life. That had direct impact on their respective use of time, energy and resources. Indeed, Jesus told them on another occasion that their attitude to time or their use of it was completely different from His (John 7:5). Obviously, Jesus was not ready to compromise purpose, principles and preferences for the sake of maintaining filial favours. Jesus would not pander to what might be called brotherhood correctness at the expense of God’s will.

Beloved, follow peace with all men, but follow God’s plan for your life as well. When that peace threatens your fulfilment of destiny, let the wisdom of God instruct you on how to manage the situation.
