FOLLOW PEACE WITH ALL MEN (X)

“And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:7).

A peaceful marriage is a great treasure. There is nothing as sweet as living peacefully with your spouse. When the peace of God is allowed to saturate a home and the partners live congenially with one another, there will be no problem too difficult for them to surmount.

Peace in the home guarantees that prayers shall not be hindered (1 Peter 3:15). It functions like a weapon that will defeat the devil at all times. Achieving peace in the home will require a lot of sacrifices, humility, submission, selflessness and forbearance. All of these virtues and more can be learned, cultivated and perfected.

But there are cases where one partner is doing everything possible to achieve peace and reconciliation, while the other continues to cause crisis that can lead to separation. Praying and studying scriptures together, with an agreement to abide by the word of God can be very helpful. It will also be helpful to have a mentor to guide and submit to outright counselling when necessary.

However, there can be a situation where separation or dissolution becomes inevitable. In such cases, the counsel of scripture is to let the one who does not believe in peace and the way of God depart, if he or she wants to.  A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases because allowing that departure is in itself a means to achieving the peace that God has called us to (1 Corinthians 7:15).

May the peace of God that passes all understanding reign in our homes in Jesus name.
