PASSION FOR THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE LORD

“That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death” (Philippians 3:10).

There are many people who truly desire to know the Lord. But they have not made much progress because they have no passion in that direction. Yet, the measure of knowledge a man can acquire will be determined by the depth of his passion. If you will really know the Lord, you must be passionate about your pursuit of that knowledge.

Passion makes you act differently from regular people. Paul left what regular people would run after to pursue the knowledge of God (Philippians 3:5-8). The same thing can be said of Moses who was no longer driven by the desire for miracles, signs, and wonders, but was now interested only in knowing God (Exodus 33:13). No wonder God made His ways known to him while the children of Israel were clamouring for His acts (Psalms 103:7).

Passion makes you discountenance pleasures and frivolities because men of passion are rarely men of pleasure. People like Moses, Paul, and of course, Jesus Christ demonstrated it again and again when they deferred to enjoy food, which is even a basic human necessity, just that they might purse God. Passion drives you beyond the natural limits of human strength. That was what made Moses stay on the mountain for forty days to give attention to God.

Beloved, please develop a passion for the knowledge of God. Be willing to make sacrifices to service that passion. Keep company with people who have similar passion, and you will indeed find the knowledge of the Lord.
