“But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 15:57).
Victory is a gift from God. The same is true of success, breakthrough, prosperity and other positive human achievements. We know this because “the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill” (Ecclesiastes 9:11).
Again, the Bible says “it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy” (Romans 9:16). When you see people who have laboured more than you but did not get half the results you got, you will understand better that victory is a gift and success in any endeavour in life is a product of God’s mercy.
Uzziah was a very intelligent, creative, and hardworking king who came up with military inventions and took practical steps to secure Judah and bring development to his nation. But of him, the Bible says God made all that he did to prosper (2 Chronicles 26:5). Obviously, without the Lord’s involvement, Uzziah may neither have succeeded nor prospered.
The above is by no means an attempt to trivialize skilfulness and commitment to diligent labour. Nehemiah understood this and said, “The God of heaven, he will prosper us; therefore we his servants will arise and build” (Nehemiah 2:20). But after we have done all that we know to do to the best of our ability, we must recognize, appreciate and earnestly desire the God factor in human achievement. May God give you victory in every endeavour in Jesus name.
