THE DANGER OF NOT KNOWING THE LORD

“And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go” (Exodus 5:2).

One of the best things that can happen to a man is to know the Lord. That is the greatest, and most profitable knowledge anyone can acquire. Conversely, there is great danger in not knowing God.

A man who does not know the Lord will become arrogant and proud. Imagine Pharaoh, a mere mortal saying, “Who is the LORD”? Pharaoh himself would not have taken it kindly, had one of his subjects queried: “Who is Pharaoh”? Ignorance about God will make you believe you owe no allegiance to any higher power. Soon, you will start seeing yourself as the ultimate authority over your life.

Pharaoh continually disobeyed the instruction to let Israel go because he knew not the Lord. Spiritual ignorance breeds rebellion and hardness of heart. Hence, those who do not know God live in constant disobedience to His laws. Indeed, the measure of your knowledge of God will determine the scale of your obedience to Him.

Ultimately, the greatest danger is that you would be fighting against God, albeit unknowingly, just like Pharaoh. Apart from the futility of such an exercise, the calamitous consequences would be quite devastating. Pharaoh, his people and the entire land paid dearly for their ignorance of God. They experienced such self-imposed destruction that the world is yet to see.

Friends, it pays to know the Lord. No price is to much to pay and no effort is too much to make to know God. As we seek to know Him, may we find Him in Jesus name.
