“And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him” (Mark 16:6).
That Jesus was crucified, died and was buried are established historical facts. But that was not the end of the story. It was in fact, the beginning of an unending story of redemption, salvation and restoration of mankind. The good news is that on the third day, Jesus rose from the dead to die no more.
Just like His birth, the resurrection of Christ remains one of the greatest good news the world has ever heard. “He is not here”, the angel announced to the women who had come to the tomb to ornament the Lord’s corpse with spices. “He is risen”, the angel confirmed and mandated the women to go spread the good news to the disciples. Throughout the apostolic age, the disciples had the responsibility of telling the whole world that Jesus is alive.
Today, the good news still remains the same, that Jesus Christ who was crucified, rose again from the dead on the third day, just as He had said (Luke 9:22). An empty tomb is there to prove that Jesus lives. It is good news for you and me because His resurrection gives us hope that after we are done with this present world, we shall also experience resurrection.
Today, Jesus is alive. He holds that unique place of being the firstborn from the dead among those who have shared our common humanity (1 Corinthians 15:20). May the joy of resurrection be ours forever in Jesus name.
