“They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate” (Titus 1:16).
One important thing we must understand as believers is that true Christianity is manifested, not in words only, but also in practice. The Christian is known, not just by what he says but also by what he does.
While giving an account of the life and times of Jesus, the writer of the book of Acts wrote about “all that Jesus began both to do and teach” (Acts 1:1). With Jesus, there was no disparity between His profession and action. His words and His deeds aligned perfectly. His example is the pattern that God wants us to follow as His children.
Please understand that profession is not an end in itself, neither is it complete or sufficient in itself. It is your works or actions that confirm, complete and authenticate your profession and confession. Without corresponding and complimentary actions, our profession shall be empty, our confessions powerless and our words shall become mere sounding cymbals.
The point of this message is that those who profess that they know God must also behave like they know God. Our works, conduct or actions must reflect that we are God’s children who truly know Him. People should not only hear Jesus on our lips, they must also see Him in our lives. We must become like those in Antioch where the disciples were first called Christians because the people saw Christ in them (Acts 11:26).
As we press on in this journey of faith, may our lifestyle not deny the God that our mouth professes.
