THE INNOCENT SHALL NOT PERISH

“Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished, being innocent? Or where were the righteous cut off?” (Job 4:7).

To be innocent is to be free, blameless, guiltless, clean, and exempted from culpability in any iniquity (Job 33:9). Ultimately, to be innocent is to walk in uprightness and righteousness before God in all things. Such is the life God wants His children to live.

Today’s Bible verse raises the question if anyone ever perished being innocent. The implied answer is that no one suffers permanent damage for living a life of innocence because God is ever committed to keeping the innocent safe. In fact, God hates and punishes every violation of the wellbeing of innocent people (Proverbs 6:17).

God’s commitment to protecting the innocent is displayed all over scripture. From Joseph to Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, God demonstrated that He would not allow the innocent to perish. He even organized a divine encounter for Abimelech, the unbeliever king of Gerar to save him from destruction because he acted in innocence (Genesis 20:5).

But perhaps, the best illustration of God’s commitment to saving the innocent from perishing is Daniel’s story. Daniel was set up by envious colleagues with whom he served in the government of king Darius. He was then thrown into the lion’s den to be devoured by the ravenous beasts. However, God sent his angel to shut the lions’ mouths, that they might not hurt Daniel because he was innocent (Daniel 6:22).

Beloved, keep walking in innocence irrespective of the challenges you face. Be assured that God has your back. The schemes of the wicked shall not succeed against you, in Jesus name.
