BE THANKFUL FOR LITTLE THINGS

“I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies, and of all the truth, which thou hast shewed unto thy servant; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I am become two bands” (Genesis 32:10).

Gratitude is always a good thing (Psalms 92:1). It becomes even more precious when we are willing to give thanks for small, seemingly insignificant things.

A heart of gratitude is usually not difficult to spot. In today’s scripture verse, Jacob expressed heartfelt gratitude to God for all He had done for him. He remembered how he started with nothing and how that now, he had been blessed with abundant riches.

Jacob was willing to acknowledge the small mercies of the Lord and the least of His blessings. He remembered that he began his journey with only a staff, a most insignificant item which has no place in the world of wealth. This is especially so when the staff had no flock of sheep to accompany it.

Jesus also taught us to be thankful for little things. There was a time He needed to feed about five thousand men, not counting women and children. Although He only had five small loaves of bread and two small fishes which were borrowed, Jesus gave thanks for these little supplies. That act of gratitude laid the foundation for an incredible miracle of provision which took care of the present need (John 6:11).

The Bible tells us to give thanks in everything, regardless of whether big or small (1 Thessalonians 5:18). But be sure that when you give thanks for little things, God will reply you with bigger things. Give thanks.
