HIS PRESENCE WILL GIVE YOU REST

“And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest” (Exodus 33:14).

The Bible declares that rest is good (Genesis 49:15). There is always a divine provision of rest for God’s people. All through the scripture, God was constantly in the business of bringing His people into the rest He prepared for them. God even cared enough to give their animals rest (Exodus 23:12).

Of course, the rest mentioned in today’s scripture verse points to Canaan, the land which the Lord promised Israel. But it is obviously symbolic of a wider range of benefits that God intends for His children. For us, rest shall refer to deliverance from the power of sin and every pollution, affliction and distress that the enemy brings. Rest speaks of divine access into the righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost that the kingdom of God offers.

But an important dimension that must not be overlooked is that it is the presence of God that brings rest. Yes, indeed, God desires rest for His people, but if they do not befriend His presence and abide therein, they shall scarcely enter into His rest. Abiding in the presence of the Lord speaks of constant intimate communion with Him. To retain the presence of God is to make Him an integral part of your every day life.

The scripture insists that there yet remains a rest to God’s people (Hebrews 4:9). Jesus invited all who desire rest to come to Him (Matthew 11:28). As you respond to His call and keep your place in God’s presence, may you find rest on every side as He has ordained for you.
