“Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you” (Luke 10:19).
Every believer in Christ has power beyond the natural, ordinary realm. When you gave your heart to Christ, you received the power to become a child of God (John 1:12). That power gives you access to the supernatural.
While addressing His disciples, Jesus explained further the dimensions of this power. He said we have power, authority or licence to trample upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy. It means we have what it takes to triumph in every situation and walk over every problem.
It is comforting to note that in exercising this power, Jesus gave a guarantee that “nothing shall by any means hurt you”. It means that you have God’s protection as you claim victory over the challenges of life so that you suffer no adverse effect in the process. Of course, for that to happen, you have to play by the rules.
Playing by the rules means that first, you have to be on the side of the Lord to exercise this exclusive authority. You have to know Jesus as your Saviour and submit to His authority as your Lord. The scripture is clear on this: “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7). The power to triumph over the devil derives from total submission to God.
Finally, the power of God is exercised through the name of Jesus (Mark 16:17). As you call on that precious name, may every mountain crumble before you.
