THE IMPORTANCE OF APPLYING KNOWLEDGE

“An hypocrite with his mouth destroyeth his neighbour: but through knowledge shall the just be delivered” (Proverbs 11:9).

It is often said that knowledge is power. Indeed, knowledge is powerful and it is one of the most important ingredients for deliverance, breakthrough and fulfilment in life.

However, knowledge by itself will change nothing in a man’s life. Knowledge will only translate into power and engender change when applied. If you know that danger is coming and you do nothing to protect yourself from the impending danger, the knowledge you have is useless. The knowledge you possess that you fail to apply cannot deliver you. Rather, it will keep you gyrating on the same spot without bringing any change to your life.

The tragedy that befell the unprofitable servant happened because he knew something about his master but failed to apply that knowledge. His master confronted him with his error, that he should have acted on the knowledge he had about him (Matthew 25:26-27).  Knowledge is at best no more than a potential. Until it is deployed with wisdom, it profits nothing.

It must be emphasized that knowledge must be applied with deep understanding and the wisdom of God to enhance its value. Jonathan knew that David would be king and that Saul was committing blunders. Perhaps if he had applied that knowledge appropriately, he would not have perished with the knowledge that should have saved him (1 Samuel 23:17).

It is time to act on what you know, for it is only then that it can be said that you truly have knowledge. The proof of knowledge is in its effects.
