“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16).
Some Christians only know to use scripture verses to claim things from God. But the scripture is profitable for more fundamental purposes.
First, the scripture is profitable for doctrine. Doctrine means authoritative teachings that shapes belief and conduct. Doctrine feeds us with knowledge about God and His ways, and how we His children should conduct ourselves in relating with Him and His creations. When you understand doctrine, you will shift from practicing Christianity as a mere religion and evolve into having genuine relationship with God.
The scripture is also profitable for reproof. Reproof means conviction of wrongdoing. Your engagement with scripture must show you what you are doing wrong, otherwise, it will be a waste of time. Reproof must then provoke correction, a restoration to an upright or right state to secure improvement of life and character. Correction is straightening up and making yourself erect from a position of moral or character deformity. It is taking steps to build yourself anew.
Finally, scripture gives instruction in righteousness, showing us how to live in a manner that pleases God going forward, having profited from reproof and correction. The scripture gives you God’s principles for right living which, when followed, will produce a life of joy, peace and prosperity.
Beloved, the scripture is profitable. David understood this and employed the scripture as a power tool to secure destiny fulfilment. Please use it profitably so that God’s word will not be in vain in your life. May God help us to make profitable use of the scripture in Jesus name.
